Home is where the heart is...

Small Sprog looked longingly at the house. "Can't we stay Mummy?" he pleads as I carry on packing boxes. "Not really" I say, "It's not really ours to keep"

That was over a week ago.

On Monday we went back to the old house to pick up post. The place, which I have to admit did feel so much like home as soon as we'd moved in last year, was completely empty. It even smelt different.

It's almost a privilege to be able to return to the old home once you've decamped to the new. Not always possible to say your goodbyes to the inside so thoroughly.

Tall Girl went to look at her room while Small Sprog sat on the kitchen work top. She came down again "It doesn't look like home any more" She said, almost disappointed.
"The other house feels like home now" Says Small Sprog, "It's got all our things in it"
Which just goes to prove, I guess, that home is what you make it.

I'm really glad they feel they have a new home now and not just a new house. For me it all still seems a bit unreal.

Home is definitely what you and your family make it...

I guess it WILL seem like home before very long.
Hope you spend many happy years together there.

We're in the same boat, Sub. The new place is bearly starting to fell like home, but there is a start.

Getting settled, of course, it another matter.

They say that children are very adaptable, no matter how much they may protest at first about house moves! My girls were okay, but my son was not happy about the second house move post separation, yet in the end it was me that struggled for the longest time. That feeling of unreality will pass, but just go with it and look after yourself x

I often go past our flat of 12 years, which we left 13 years ago, to still see our net curtains at the window. It's so funny, I obviously chose well! The home really is where the heart is. Make the very best of it, and you are all sure to find happiness. x

I've always found it sad to leave a house, especially one we lived in for many years. But it really is just a building--the memories and the important parts of a home you always take with you. Small Sprog is wise beyond his years.

It's funny how quickly an old house becomes just a memory, once all your familiar bits and pieces have gone elsewhere. A home is indeed what you make it, including all the new memories you start attaching to it.

Home is where the heart is! Hard work to get yourself re-established somewhere new but sounds as though it's going well x
